Robins status: Missing In Action

Richmond Superintendent Jim Robins didn’t return to work as expected the week of July 5, nor did he attend the July 8 school board meeting – his second such absence since he and the school board became embroiled in what amounted to a transfer of power.

Further, Robins was Missing in Action the week of July 12. A call to the district office today also found him away from the office.

“Same thing,” said Julie Stevenson, an administrator who’s handling public relations for the schools. “He’s on leave right now by his choice. That’s about all I can say.”

From all signs, the school board – technically the superintendent’s employer and direct supervisor – has flexed its muscle and taken charge.

Robins, in his 10th year with the district, has one year remaining on his contract. But speculation is growing that he won’t return and is now negotiating a graceful exit short of quitting – or being fired.
