Former Orrick mayor questions city’s openness

Orrick’s city leaders have attempted to clear up some concerns about the city’s availability of public information.
Former Mayor Shirley Taylor and former City Clerk Jeanette Hensley recently informed the city’s Board of Aldermen they believe city officials could do better releasing information to citizens.
For starters, Taylor said the city didn’t properly post an ordinance modifying driveway-surface regulations. Alderwoman Cindy Lampton begged to differ.
“We read it twice (in full) once by title, so it did not have to be posted,” Lampton said. City Attorney Kevin Baldwin concurred with Lampton.
In addition to concerns about posted ordinances, Taylor also claimed the board is not keeping in step with Missouri’s Sunshine Law by posting public meeting minutes at the city’s post office.
City Clerk Tricia Wartenbee told Taylor she posts minutes at City Hall for three days before removing them. Taylor and Hensley suggested that between what Taylor considered a lack of available minutes and the city no longer issuing a newsletter, citizens aren’t being properly informed.
