Committee taps TranSystems for school sidewalk project

Richmond officials don’t have a timeline or estimated cost of a Safe Routes To School project, but are positioned to name their engineering firm.
After interviewing nine firms Wednesday afternoon, the city council’s Public Works Committee looks poised to recommend once again contracting with Kansas City firm TranSystems. The Safe Routes To School sidewalk project – funded by a $250,000 federal grant administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation – was on the city council’s wish list even before TranSystems recommended the project as part of its Access Richmond master transportation plan in March.
TranSystems engineers initially recommended extending the sidewalk past Richmond Middle School and Richmond High School to the Highway 10 interchange and then on to near Walmart.
