Travon Alexander broke loose for a pair of long touchdown runs, returned a punt for a score and threw for another as the Spartan junior varsity won its season opener Aug. 25, 24-8 over visiting O’Hara.
Alexander, who ended the night with 170 yards on 11 carries, scored on a 60-yard breakaway on the second play from scrimmage to give the Spartans the lead for good. His 60-yard punt return on the first play of the second period pushed Richmond’s lead to 12-0.
The Spartan cushion reached 18-0 with 3:38 remaining in the half when Alexander raced untouched for 78 yards around the right side after Cooper Summers recovered a Celtic fumble. Mason Dugan’s interception set up the final Richmond score of the night. Four plays later Alexander, now at quarterback, found Braidn Ford for a 26-yard scoring strike with 14.2 seconds remaining in the half.
