The Richmond Lady Spartans scored a pair of runs in their first at bat of the season Tuesday afternoon and that would be all they would need to take a 6-1 victory at Lawson.
Richmond ended the day with six hits and drew four walks on the way to the season-opening win. Senior Nicole Camp kept the Lady Cardinal bats quiet through seven innings. She scattered four hits and surrendered just one walk while striking out four.
Mallory Cole and Madison Cole began the first with a walk and reaching on an error, respectively. Alexis Thaxton delivered a two-out single, followed by Camp’s double as Richmond grabbed a 2-0 lead.
Lawson scored its only run in the bottom of the third, but the Lady Spartans answered with two more runs in the fourth as Thaxton reached on a walk, and Camp reached on another Lawson error.
