Richmond High School’s agriculture department hosted a statewide soil-judging workshop for agriculture teachers earlier this summer.
Former RHS teacher Adam Brock led the class for those who attended. He discussed such topics as soil color, structure and texture. Using these factors and other soil components, teachers discovered how to determine available water capacity, limitations of the soil and other interpretations concerning soil use.
After lunch, a demonstration was held on how to judge a soil pit for the Missouri Agriculture Soils Career Development Event.
The agriculture department was assisted by Macey Excavating, which dug the soil pit, and by Clint Evans Heating and Cooling, which provided the back filling.
