Hallie Dell (Calhoun) Gill, age 93, of Parrish, Fla., passed away July 2, 2014.
She was born Nov. 5, 1920. near Hiwassee, Arkansas. to Jim and Adah Calhoun. At the age of 5 years, she and her family moved to Ray County where she resided for nearly 80 years.
She was married to Wesley Gill in August 1941, and they lived in St. Louis for three years before relocating to their farm in the Dockery community. She worked as a bookkeeper at co-op, and for Harry Park Motors and Swafford Motor Company in Richmond. She worked at the Ray County Courthouse for many years as well. Hallie was a devout Christian and very active in the Dockery Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many, many years.
After she moved to Richmond, she actively volunteered in the First Baptist Church Sunday school programs and other related activities. She volunteered in the Foster Grandparents Program in the Richmond school system and loved the children in those classes.
In 2005 she left Richmond and moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Parrish. Upon her relocation to Florida, she joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in Parrish and attended that church as long as she was able. She was an avid reader, quilter and Bible student. She was a much-loved lady by all who knew her, and she influenced the lives of many, including members of the Sunday school class of young married couples she taught at the Dockery Church.
She is survived by her only child, Lynda (Gill) Brown of Parrish; son-in-law, Donald Brown; grandson, David Brown, and four great-grandchildren: Meghan (Brown) Thomas and husband, Drew Thomas, Katie Brown, Hunter Brown and Sydney Brown. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Richmond in October with interment in Richmond Memory Gardens.
