Editor’s note: Ray County Presiding Commissioner Bob King is retiring from that post at the end of this term, and five candidates – three Democrats and two Republicans – are vying for their party’s nod to compete in the general election in November. This is the first in a series of stories introducing those candidates.
Long-time Richmond resident Karl T. Carter is seeking the Democratic nomination for Ray County Presiding Commissioner.
Carter initially ran for the position in 2010 but lost to current presiding commissioner.
“I should have known he couldn’t be beat,” Carter said, adding that the loss showed him that political opponents can end up being friends and that politics can be civil. “Bob was the right guy. You can’t beat a banker when it comes to money.”
