Academics and athletics were recognized Tuesday night at the annual spring sports ceremony held in the RHS commons. The evening also brought to a close the athletic seasons for the 2013-14 school year.
The Richmond All-Sports Club recognized the top two student athletes. The organization annually honors the top male and female scholar athletes from the past school year with the Athletic Academic Excellence Award. This year Quinton Maxwell, a junior, and senior Andrea Woods were named the top student athletes who had the highest grade point average and lettered in at least three sports.
Maxwell was also recognized as a four-sport letterman this year, along with junior Daymean Probst and senior Kody Reed.
Three-sport letter winners this year were Wyatt Bulk, Madison Cole, Mallory Cole, Kanon Franklin, Jake Gray, Haley Sowder and Brock Stokes.
This year’s Scholar Bowl team was also recognized by its sponsor, Bob Lauck. Members of this year’s team were Timmy Beasley, Bailey Busse, Lauren Fulte, Skylar Fulte, Miles Hillegas, Gage Long, Colin Lunsford, Nicholas Montgomery, Kalynn Persell, Niall Sause, Sean Sause, Daniel Stigall, Monica Whitt and Blaine Wyse.
The spring sports coaches also made their way to the podium to hand out letters and certificates of participation to their athletes for the recently concluded spring season. Special awards for each team voted on by teammates and coaches were also presented.
