The MRVC East track championship turned out to be a three-team battle Tuesday afternoon at Higginsville. Knob Noster, paced by freshman Andre Williams, held off Higginsville and Richmond for the title. The Panthers ended the day with 129.5 points, while Higginsville took second with 112.5 points and the Spartans were third with 100.5.
Holden finished with 85.5 points and third place, followed by Carrollton (70) and Lexington (56).
Williams captured the 100-meter dash (11.28 seconds), the 200-meter dash (22.71), the 400 (51.04) and the long jump (20 feet, 7 inches) for the Panthers, who ended the day with six first-place finishes.
The Spartans began the day with a victory in the 4 x 800 relay. The team of Matt Tweedie, Kody Reed, Taylor Teegarden and Daymean Probst finished in 8:41.24 to edge Higginsville by .14 seconds. The Richmond 4 x 400 relay team of Quinton Maxwell, Tweedie, Teegarden and Probst capped the meet by taking that event with a time of 3:37.96, with Knob Noster right behind in 3:39.85.
Maxwell claimed an individual first-place finish for the Spartans with a personal-best leap of 40 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump. Reed was third with 39-3.
