The Richmond track teams got a sneak peak at the district competition in the final regular-season meet of they year at Thursday’s Lafayette Irish Relays in St. Joseph. Several of the schools Richmond will be competing against this Saturday at the Class 3, District 8 meet in Chillicothe were among the 11 teams competing.
The Lady Spartans fared well as they finished third for the afternoon with 67 points. Chillicothe posted 88 points for first place, with Savannah just one point ahead of Richmond. Maryville placed fourth with 61 points, followed by Lawson with 58.
Richmond grabbed a pair of wins in the relays, with Mary Beth Bailey registering the lone individual first-place finish for the Lady Spartans as she ran the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 40 seconds. Three other Lady Spartans were runners-up. Paige O’Doniel had a throw of 97 feet, 3 ½ inches to place second in the discus, with Savannah Hamilton grabbing second place in the 800 with her time of 2:32. Sherri Doss ran the 200-meter dash in 27.06 to take second, and also finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with 13.46.
