Ray quilter Laurel Kindley wins first national prize

Richmond quilt shop owner Lauel Kindley recently placed first in her division at the Home Machine Quilting Show in Salt Lake City, Utah. Competitors were given two pieces of fabric to work with and could add up to 4 others. Finished quilts had to be between 40 and 45 inches square (Kindley’s was 42 inches). Her first-place prize was $500. Her daughter Brianna, 11, helped choose fabrics, assemble and decorate the quilt. Kindley, owner of All About Quilting on Wollard Boulevard, named the winning quilt ‘Brianna’s Choice’ after her daughter. (Submitted photo)
