Paul Henry Rowan, 83, of Excelsior Springs, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home.
Paul was born July 2, 1930 in Ray County, to Ray Lester and Zella Elizabeth (Travillion) Rowan. He married Marjorie Sue Jones of Ray County, April 29, 1955; she survives of the home.
Paul was a 1948 high school graduate of Stet High School. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer for over 60 years retiring in 2009. Paul had also worked for Simmons Mattress Factory for 10 years. He attended the Rayville Christian Union Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 237 in Richmond. Paul was a lifelong resident of Ray County.
Additional survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda Lane and Richard Thompson of Leawood, Kan.; Dee Ann Jones of Overland Park, Kan. and Kathy Gay and Craig McCurdy of Leawood, Kan.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Calvin Rowan of Knoxville, and Carl and Myrna Rowan of Rayville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose and Burill Rader of Richmond, and Mary Brubeck of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Leslie Griggs, Christopher Griggs, Kayla Kruetzer, Courtney Thompson, Loarn Paul Hinkle, Nicole McCurdy, Amanda Jones and Haley Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Bryce Maples, Andrea Maples and Michael Shields.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Rowan.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rayville Christian Union Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Rayville Christian Union Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans. Online condolences may be left at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
