The Richmond Lady Spartans earned points in 15 of the 17 events Monday at the Nick Sloop Invitational in Lawson. Richmond ended the afternoon with 81 points to finish in third place at the 10-team event. The host Lady Cardinals took first place with 123 points, with Odessa grabbing second spot with 110, while Trenton finished behind Richmond with 62 points.
Mary Beth Bailey had both of Richmond’s first-place finishes. Bailey outran the field in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12 minutes, 56.56 seconds, while Lawson’s Elaina Rash was the runner-up in 13:32.56. Bailey defeated another Lady Cardinal to win the 1,600 with a time of 5:41.12. Mackenzi Stephan crossed the line in 5:45.84.
Bailey was also a member of the 4 x 800 relay team that took second place. She teamed up with Madison Cole, Mallory Cole and Savannah Hamilton to cross the line in 10:27.19, behind Plattsburg’s time of 10:23.97. Richmond’s 4 x 200 relay team of Kerrigan Maddox, Madison Cole, Mallory Cole and Sherri Doss turned in a third-place time of 1:56.43. The 4 x 100 relay team also finished third as Maddox, Randi Huffman, Nicole Johnson and Doss covered the distance in 55.43.
