Bennie McGaugh

Bennie McGaugh, 84, of Elkhorn,  died Friday, May 9, 2014 at his home.

Bennie was born Sept.  9, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Cleo and Lillie (Clemmons) McGaugh.  He married Lora Frances (Norris) May 12, 1956.  She survives of the home.

Bennie entered the Army in March of 1951 and served his country in the Korean War.  Bennie was a Purple Heart recipient.  Bennie was employed by Calmar, Inc. in Lee’s Summit, for 42 years, retiring in October 1991.  He was of the Baptist faith and a lifelong member of the V.F.W.

 Additional survivors include: two sons, David and wife Peggy of Carrollton; Donnie of Bowing Green  and daughter, Debbie Hankins and husband Ben of Excelsior Springs; brother, Bill McGaugh of Excelsior Springs, and sister, Bernadine Bergerhofer and her husband Harold of Gladstone, six grandchildren, Steven Hankins and wife, Amy of Lee’s Summit; Shane Hankins and wife, Danielle of Excelsior Springs; Joe Don McGaugh and wife, Kassie of Carrollton; Jocelyn McGaugh of Columbia; Taylor and Tanner McGaugh of Bowling Green.  Six great- grandchildren: Emily, Natalie and Ryan Hankins of Lee’s Summit; Ben Hankins of Excelsior Springs, Nora Kate and Vivian Ann McGaugh of Carrollton, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Bartley and Bobbie McGaugh.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Richmond V.F.W. or the American Cancer Society in memory of Bennie.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13,  at 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 12,  at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, with full military honors provided by the Ray County Veterans.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
