Trojans find just enough offense

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Carrollton’s Gage Boggs kept the Richmond bats quiet Tuesday afternoon at Southview, and then delivered the knockout blow at the plate in the sixth inning to lift the visiting Trojans to a 2-1 win over the Spartans.

The Trojans won their second MRVC East contest in as many tries and improved to 8-1 overall behind the efforts of Boggs who drove in the winning run in the sixth inning. Richmond’s Shane Battagler had another good outing on the mound for the Spartans in his complete-game effort. The Spartan senior allowed the 2 runs on 6 singles with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts as Richmond drops to 1-2 in league play and 2-10 overall.

Battagler gave up a run in the first inning as Mark Hundley and Hunter McNelly began the game with back-to-back singles. Battagler got the next batter to ground out to first with the runners moving up one base. Kyle Davis lifted a fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly and a 1-0 Carrollton lead.
