For the first time in the past few years, the weather cooperated to give the 21 teams competing at the Richmond Invitational golf tournament idea conditions at the Shirkey Golf Course.
Columbia Rock Bridge and defending champion Liberty battled it out for the team title, while each team had two golfers going for the individual medalists honors. At the end of the day, Rock Bridge had two Bruins tie for the low score, while taking the team title with a 299. Liberty finished just 7 shots off the pace to take runner-up honors, and Barstow was third with 313.
St. Joseph Central shot 317 to take fourth spot, followed by Rockhurst (320), Warrensburg (323), Lawson (332) and Trenton (336). Richmond finished with a 344 to take ninth place and coach Murry Dennis said it was a good chance to see how his team stacked up against district opponents Lawson and Trenton.
“I thought we played well,” he said. “I was pleased with how we played against probably the best competition we will face all year. It gave us a chance to see what we’re up against in the district tournament. We know what we need to do next week.”
