With one more MRVC East match remaining, the Richmond Spartans stand one win away from another sweep through league opponents. The Spartans easily defeated Lexington, Carrollton and Higginsville in separate matches this week in addition to chalking up another league tournament title.
The week began Monday with the Spartans earning their fifth MRVC East tournament championship at Pertle Springs Golf Course in Warrensburg. Richmond ended the 18-hole event with 345, while Lexington finished 101 shots back to take second.
The Spartans shot the low three scores for the day with senior Zach Frederick recording his second consecutive MRVC East medalist honors. Frederick ended the day with a 9-over par 81 (39-42), which was 2 shots better than his teammate Reece Milligan (40-43). Philip Kincaid took third spot with an 87 (49-38) and Kanon Franklin finished fifth with 94 (49-45).
Nathan Richey finished in a tie for 11th place with a 115 (57-58).
Richmond coach Murray Dennis thought his entire team put together a solid round.
“Reece, Philip, Kanon, and Nathan all played well today,” he said. “Kanon and Nathan both posted their best 18-hole scores, and Zach shot his lowest of the season, so hopefully we’re coming around at the right time of the season.”
