The Richmond Lady Spartan track team got a measure of its district competition Friday afternoon in Chillicothe as they competed in the Joe Shy Relays. The Lady Spartans ended the afternoon in fourth place behind district competitors Chillicothe (first, 133); Lawson (second, 97); and Maryville (third, 80).
Richmond captured a pair of first-place finishes to end up with 73 points, while Brookfield was fifth in the 15-school field with 62. One other district competitor –Trenton – placed ninth with 27.5.
Sherri Doss took first place for the Lady Spartans as she broke the tape at the finish of the 100-meter dash in 13.47 seconds. The Richmond freshman edged Maryville’s Callie Mattson by .1 seconds.
Richmond senior Mary Beth Bailey continues to run well in the distance races for the Lady Spartans as she took first place in the 3,200 with a time of 12:06.34, which was over 2 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Dayle Dickens of St. Joseph LeBlond.
However, Dickens had the edge over Bailey in the 3,200. Dickens took first place with a time of 5:34.91, while Bailey was on right on her heels with her time of 5:34.97.
Doss finished third in the 200-meter dash with 27.42. Morgan Prather of Penney broke the tape in 25.95, followed by Lawson sophomore Nikki Smith in 27.15.
