Last week’s wet weather pushed back plans for realigning a busy section of Highway 210 for bridge construction and lane expansion by a week. The work is expected to start today.
Weather permitting, Missouri Department of Transportation will be building traffic crossovers in both directions this week, closing current lanes during non-peak hours, MoDOT Construction Inspector Melissa Mahoney said.
“They’ll be working on it from Monday to Friday this week,” she said. “The lanes will only be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to avoid the times when most people are driving to and from work.”
The crossovers – moving a lane of westbound traffic to the eastbound side and vice versa – will reduce traffic to a single lane in each direction from I-435 to Ameristar Casino. That stretch of road currently has two lanes in each direction.
Rerouting traffic will allow for the rehabilitation of railroad bridges in that area. That stage of the overall widening of 210 to four lanes between 435 and Highway 291 in Liberty/River Bend is expected to begin the middle of the month and take two months, MoDOT Spokeswoman Melissa Compton said.
