OHS poultry team qualifies

Collin Inks, Kaitlin Arnold, Madison O’Dell and Lily Warman, members of the Orrick High School FFA Poultry Team, finished third out of 31 teams at the District Vo-Ag contest April 1 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Team members had to judge egg-laying hens, live broilers, as well as assign USDA grades to eggs, chicken parts and turkey carcasses. The students also had to apply quality-control standards on processed poultry products such as hot wings, chicken nuggets, chicken patties and chicken strips. The team’s third-place finish qualified them to compete at the state poultry judging contest to be held today (April 24) in Columbia on the University of Missouri campus. The team is coached by Don Honeycutt, Orrick’s vocational agriculture teacher. (Provided photo)
