The Richmond Lady Spartan track team continued its good start to the season Tuesday by winning the Tri-County meet held at the Robert Middleton track at RHS. Richmond ended the competition with 155 points, while Orrick was a distant second with 82 points in the 11-team field. St. Paul was third with 79 points, followed by MRVC East schools Carrollton with 60 and Lexington with 59.
Wellington-Napoleon finished with 58 points followed by Concordia with 51, Penney with 48, Santa Fe with 44, Norborne with 26 and Hardin-Central with 25.
Richmond had two individual first-place finishes, with two more wins coming in the relays. Mary Beth Bailey crossed the line first in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12 minutes, 40 seconds. Orrick’s Marisa Swartz was the runner-up with 14:01. Savannah Hamilton turned in the winning time of 2:41 in the 800-meter run. Hamilton and Bailey also teamed up with Jocelyn Caldwell and Kameron Carmichael to win the 4 x 800 relay with a time of 10:55. The RHS 4 x 400 squad of Hamilton, Madison Cole, Elizabeth Windsor and Mallory Cole turned in the winning time of 4:30.7.
Sherri Doss was a runner-up for Richmond in the 100-meter dash behind Lisa Stellansdottir of Hardin-Central. Stellansdottir broke the tape in 13.25, followed by Doss with 13.85 and her teammate Nicole Johnson was third with 14.27.
Windsor was a runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 1 inch, while Orrick’s Samantha Fulte had the winning distance of 15-7. It was one of three first-place showings for the Lady Bearcat junior as she also captured the triple jump with a leap of 33-11 and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.71.
