Harlan Eugene Calvert, 86, of Henrietta, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Mr. Calvert was born Jan. 7, 1928 in Norborne, the son of Calvin and Mildred (Hendrix) Calvert. He married Dorothy Y. Junk of Independence, Feb. 26, 1981; she survives of the home.
Harlan graduated from the Henrietta High School where he was a great athlete. His team was undefeated in football and basketball. Harlan farmed his entire life in the Henrietta and Richmond area. Besides farming, Harlan also was a mechanic and had his own garage in Henrietta and worked at the Lake City Arsenal for a while. He was an active member and Deacon in the Henrietta First Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing.
Additional survivors include: three sons Dennis Calvert, Houston, Texas; Keith Calvert, Richmond, and Lindell Calvert, Lexington; sister Doris (Robert) Claypole, Richmond; step-sons: Michael (Nancy) Glynn, Richmond; Steven (Denise) Glynn, Timothy (Kim) Glynn both of Independence; step-daughters: Teri (Joe) Dewey, Patty (Dave) Camp, Susan (Tom) Knight and Sandra (Larry) Hatley, all of Independence; 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and a host of friends and church family.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Calvert, brothers Howard and Harold Calvert and daughter-in-law Rita Calvert.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Henrietta First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, at the Henrietta First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Henrietta First Baptist Church.
