Higginsville took advantage of five Richmond errors Thursday afternoon to grab a 6-1 home victory in an MRVC East contest. The victory pulls the Huskers within a game of .500 in the league at 2-3, while also improving to 7-6 overall.
The Spartans were able to reach Husker pitcher Tucker Wegener for only 4 hits as they fall to 1-3 in conference and 2-11 overall.
Richmond threatened to jump on top in the top of the second with Jordan Beck reaching on a one-out single and Garrett Hewlett’s base hit with two gone. However, both runners were left stranded. Two Spartan errors in the home half of the inning allowed Higginsville to take a 1-0 lead.
Morgan Hendrix opened the top of the third for Richmond by drawing a walk, but Wegener would retire the next 11 Spartans he faced until Quinton Maxwell reached on a Husker error with two outs in the sixth.
