DAR chapter presents its Good Citizens Awards

Harriet Minnick, chairwoman of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizens Award committee, presented this year’s award Tuesday at Richmond United Methodist Church. The recipients, pictured from left are Mary Penny, Hardin-Central High School, John Moore, Orrick High School, and Catherine Pence, Richmond High School. A fourth student chosen, Joshua Jacobsen of Lawson, wasn’t able to attend. Each year, the Allen Morton Watkins DAR chapter chooses a student from each Ray County school district who exemplifies the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism at home, in school and in the community. Penny, the daughter of Marsha and Dwayne Penny, said she plans to attend Northwest Missouri State University to study animal science. Moore, son of Deb and John Moore, will attend North Central College in Trenton in the fall and major in sports therapy. Pence is the daughter of Dale and Jill Pence. She will attend Truman State University after graduation. (Photo by David Knopf/Richmond News)
