Corn, soybean stocks improve; wheat supply shows decline

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2014 totaled 176 million bushels, up 72 percent from March 1, 2013. On-farm stocks totaled 105 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 70.8 million bushels. The December 2013 – February 2014 indicated disappearance is 94.4 million bushels, up 131 percent from the same period last year.

Soybean stocks in all positions on March 1, 2014 totaled 49  million bushels, up 13 percent from March 1, 2013. On-farm stocks totaled 22.0 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 27.0 million bushels. The December 2013 – February 2014 indicated disappearance is 70.9 million bushels, up 71 percent from the same period last year.

All wheat stocks in all positions on March 1, 2014 totaled 15.5 million bushels, down 15 percent from March 1, 2013. On-farm stocks totaled 1.30 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 14.2 million bushels. The December 2013 – February 2014 indicated disappearance is 8.73 million bushels, up 4 percent from the same period last year.

Corn growers intend to plant 3.30 million acres in 2014, down 1 percent from 2013.
Soybean planted area is expected to total 5.50 million acres, down 2 percent from the previous year.
Cotton growers intend to plant 260,000 acres in 2014, up 2 percent from 2013.
Rice planted area is expected to total 180,000 acres, up 13 percent from last year.
Sorghum planted area is expected to total 70,000 acres, unchanged from 2013.
Winter wheat area seeded last fall is estimated at 950,000 acres, down 14 percent from the previous year.
Area planted to oats is expected to total 20,000 acres, down 33 percent from 2013.
Producers intend to harvest 4.15 million acres of all hay in 2014, up 2 percent from last year.
