Building new fields of dreams

The sizzle and aroma of fried fish and the visual attraction of desserts will entertain the senses Sunday when Orrick Lions Club hosts a fundraiser at its Front Street building.

But it’s the ping of aluminum bats and the cheers of parents the Lions hope to hear more of at the city park.

Lions Club volunteers have already built a ball field scaled to t-ball dimensions at the park and have plans to add a second little-league-size diamond once funds are raised.

Proceeds from Sunday’s fish fry and dessert auction will be dedicated to the ball fields, Lions Bruce and Christine Dugan say.

From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., free-will donations will be accepted for a classic Lenten-season dinner of fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw and cornbread. The club will then auction off a variety of desserts to raise additional money and tantalize the senses.
