Mrs. Bertha Marie Hicks, 98, of Tellico Village, Loudon, Tenn., a former Jefferson City resident, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at her home in The Neighborhood, Loudon, Tenn.
Bertha was born April 27, 1915 the daughter of Arnold and Lottie Stehwein Hagman. She was married Aug. 25, 1934 in Excelsior Springs, to Kenneth R. “Kenny” Hicks who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 2000.
Bertha was an active member of the Community Christian Church in Jefferson City for many years, and more recently, visited the Community Church in Tellico Village for the past ten years. She was member of the Woman’s Club, and the Hospital Auxiliary.
Bertha loved to grow flowers and make arrangements for the church, she loved to play cards and collect antiques. She was also an expert seamstress and knitted baby blankets for various charities.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Carlson of Loudon, Tenn. and Janet Lewis of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one son, Jon Hicks of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Lottie Loyd of Orrick, and Marilyn Woods and her husband Eldon of Orrick; and six grandchildren, Tim Carlson, Rob Hicks, Jay Hicks, Bill Lewis, Tom Lewis, and Rich Lewis
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Jeffrey Hicks, and one sister, Anna Patterson.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Community Christian Church with the Reverend David Avery. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
