The Humane Society of Ray County has a selection of adoptable cats and dogs at its shelter. Adoption days are Saturdays and Sundays from 1-3 p.m. at 200 S. College St. (the old county jail). For info, call Tammy at 660-232-1306 or Donna at 816-504-7843.
Adoption fees are $110 for dogs or $80 for cats, which includes spay/neutering, shots, tests and registered microchipping for dogs.
Ashes is a short-haired dilute tortoise shell. “She is about 5 months old, and a cute little girl who is a curious kitten and likes to check out everything around her,” volunteer Gloria McFadden said. “Ashes is small. She only weighs 4.5 pounds, so she will probably be a small cat when she grows up.”
Sweetie is a mixed breed. “We were unable to come up with any distinct breed she looks like,” McFadden
said. “She’s black and tan in color, a medium-sized dog who weighs 45 pounds.
“Two different volunteers called her Sweetie when they were with her at different times, so she was named Sweetie. I must say when I took her picture I agreed with them. She is a real sweetheart, very well mannered and eager for pets. When I did not respond, she busied herself sniffing around and tried again later for pets.”
