It’s 22 miles from Richmond to Higginsville, far enough that Richmond Fire Department wasn’t called to provide mutual aid in a fire that destroyed Higginsville’s John Deere dealership last Thursday.
But it’s close enough that the Deere franchise in Richmond is likely to feel some of the fallout from its sister AG-Power franchise in Lafayette County.
“I don’t know any of the details about the situation down there,” said Brett Smoot, who manages the Richmond Deere franchise. “(But) we’re going to do all we can to make sure the customer’s taken care of.”
Smoot said he didn’t know how many pieces of Deere and other equipment were destoryed in a fire that virtually flattened the 19,220-square-foot Higginsville AG-Power building.
The Higginsville dealership is at 1880 Highway (13) Blvd., a business route that connects Richmond, Lexington and Higginsville with I-70.
