William Cooper Mattox, 63, of Norborne, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at his home.
Cooper was born Dec. 13, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harry H. and Betty Ann (Cole) Mattox; who preceded him in death.
Cooper graduated from Wentworth Military Academy and attended Junior College there. He also attended the University of Oklahoma, University of Missouri and Missouri Valley. He worked for Wilson’s Meat Packing Company in Marshall, for 11 years. He then changed careers and obtained his insurance and brokerage licenses. He was owner and operator of Mattox Insurance Agency in Norborne. Cooper was a former member of the Norborne Lion’s Club, the Blue Springs Elk Lodge and was a member of the Norborne First Baptist Church. Semi-retired, he moved to Blue Springs, before returning to his home town of Norborne.
Survivors include one sister, Sharon Ann Mattox and her husband, Yurda Gemici of Houston, Texas; and two cousins, Ruth Turpin of Fort Worth, Texas and Jack Manning, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and his loving feline companion, Cooperina.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Norborne Public Library.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Norborne. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Norborne.
