Spartan wrestlers continue dual hot streak

The Spartan wrestlers earned their third consecutive sweep of the season Thursday night and also ran their MRVC East dual record to 3-0. Richmond won eight of the 11 contested matches to take a 45-21 decision over the host Higginsville Huskers and followed with a 53-21 victory over Polo to improve to 9-4 in dual competition.

Both Richmond and Higginsville won one match by open and both were open at 152 pounds.

The Spartans dropped the opening match of the night with Braidn Ford losing by fall in 57 seconds to Dylan Wahn at 106, and Richmond was open at 113, but the Spartans came back to win the seven contested matches.

Dylan Caldwell began the string with an 8-1 decision over Josh Gilkey at 120, followed by Dominic Nobile earning a 9-2 decision over Levi Kreie at 126. Richmond won the next three by falls as Mason Hewitt won in 4:14 over Nathan Hursman at 132; Garrison Sanders stopped Hunter Goring in 1:41 at 138; and Austin Keefhaver won at 145 pounds with a fall over Colton Williams in 2:27.

Brock Stokes continued the winning string for Richmond at 160 pounds when he defeated Conner Lamphier, 6-4. Wyatt Bulk won by fall in 3:23 over Cameron Lee at 170. Alex Vance lost by fall to Higginsville’s Trenton Hoeflicker in 3:16 in the 195-pound match.
