The Richmond Spartans wrapped up the regular season by sweeping back-to-back meetings with the Carrollton Trojans. The Spartans will take a 17-8 record, and No. 6 seed, into this week’s Class 3, District 14 tournament at the RHS gym. Richmond finished third in the MRVC East race with a 6-4 record.

The Spartans capped the weather-delayed Courtwarming festivities with a 54-34 win Friday night over the visiting Trojans as they end the regular season with a 4-18 overall record and a 1-9 showing in league play. Senior Reid Summers put 25 points on the board in his final regular-season contest at home, with fellow senior Jake Gray adding 8 points to go along with 8 assists and 3 steals.

“Jake was really good at the point,” Richmond coach Duane Bastob said. “Reid shot the ball well from the arc and led us to a senior night victory.”

Quinton Maxwell hit for 16 points, and Bastob added his junior forward was a defensive key for the Spartans.

“Quinton once again patrolled the paint like he owned it,” he said. “He also held (Mark) Hundley to a nominal amount of points once he started guarding him.”

Hundley ended the night with a team-high 18 points, but added just two field goals and four free throws in the second half. Three other Spartan seniors, Zach Frederick, Chad Truby and Kody Reed also started in their regular-season home finale.
