For the second year in a row, the Orrick Lady Bearcats find themselves playing for the Class 1, District 13 championship.
The Orrick defense led the way Wednesday night helping the Lady Bearcats to a 53-28 semifinal victory over Hardin-Central in the semifinals.
Unlike last year, Orrick will not face Wellington-Napoleon who ended the Lady Bearcats’ season with a 40-38 victory, but will take on Braymer in the 2 p.m. finals.
Braymer knocked off the defending champion Lady Tigers 62-50 in the later semifinal. Saturday’s meeting will be the second this season between the Bearcats and Braymer with Orrick getting past the Lady Bobcats 61-59 in overtime two weeks ago in Braymer.
Orrick gained the upper hand of its semifinal meeting against Hardin-Central early. The Lady Bearcats grabbed a 16-3 lead after the opening 8 minutes and the defense took over from there.
“I am very pleased with the way we came out ready to play tonight,” Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said. “We took control early and controlled the game the whole 32 minutes.”
Orrick took a 35-14 cushion into the halftime break and a 45-20 cushion into the final period.
Orrick junior Sam Fulte paced the scoring with 15 points, as she hit 7 of her 9 shots from the floow, while Sydnee McGlothlin added 10 points.
