It’s possible to find a fabulous prom dress for just $10 – or, by trade.
Prom dresses will be available to any area high school student through the Fairy Godmother Prom Dress Exchange, according to sponsor Jill Pence.
The event is scheduled for Feb. 22 at Richmond High School from 9 a.m. until noon.
“Girls are welcome to come and look through our racks of gently used prom dresses,” Pence said. “We have dresses in all sizes and in a variety of colors and styles.”
Students may donate $10 for a dress but are also welcome to bring a used prom dress and exchange it for a different one, Pence said.
The program has been in place in Richmond for several years. After being held at an area church, it is returning to the school commons this year.
Those attending will be able to try on dresses, and area teachers will be on hand to assist. Some shoes and accessories will be available as well.
Pence said many students often spend hundreds of dollars on prom dresses, but others might prefer to take a more economic approach to buying prom attire.
“It’s a great opportunity to find a ‘dream’ dress,” Pence said.
Proceeds will go to the Richmond High School backpack program.
Anyone who would like to donate dresses to the exchange may contact Pence at the high school at 816-776-2226.
