A disastrous third quarter resulted in the Richmond Spartans dropping a 55-41 contest at Oak Grove Friday night. The Spartans trailed 25-21 at the half in a defensive battle, but failed to score in the third quarter as the host Panthers rattled off 17 points – 10 of those from Tanner Knack who ended the night with 26 points.
The loss dropped the Spartans to 6-3 for the season with Oak Grove improving to 3-4 and avenging a 49-40 loss to Richmond in the third-place game of the Husker Classic in early December.
Spartan coach Duane Bastob said Oak Grove dominated the play inside the lane.
“We did not play well enough defensively to give ourselves a chance to win,” he said. “Out of their 55 points, Oak Grove probably scored 46 of those on layups or three-foot shots. You can’t go scoreless in a quarter at the high school level and expect to win.”
Richmond hit just 11 of 41 from the floor, including 5 of 24 outside the 3-point arc.
