Olen Dean (Dee) Mayer, age 78, of Richmond, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.
Dee was born Aug. 17, 1935 in Cabool, to Herman and Una (Bennett) Mayer.
Dee was married to Roberta Ledbetter in Las Vegas, Nevada, Aug. 22, 1970.
He graduated from Bentley High School, in Bentley, Kan. Dee proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Before moving to Missouri, he worked for the Southern California Gas Company for 20 years. He was a Richmond businessman who owned the Rose Court Motel in Richmond, for 16 years. He then began working for the Richmond School District in the Maintenance and Custodial Departments, where he was employed for six years. Dee was a member of the Knoxville Community Church. He enjoyed woodworking projects and spending time with his family.
Dee is survived by his wife of 43 years, Roberta (Ledbetter) Mayer, he leaves behind their children: Pamela Sairafe, of St. Joseph, Debra K. Brooks and husband John, of Richmond, Olen Dean Mayer, of Norman, Okla., Thomas Edward Mayer, of Norman, Okla., Cheree Corderman, of St. Joseph, Tamara Grossman and husband Greg, of Kidder, and Tonya Holder and husband Monte, of Nelson; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Una; his sons, DeWayne Christian Mayer and Alan Lee Forguson; one brother and two sisters.
A cremation memorial service to honor Dee’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at the Knoxville Community Church in Knoxville, with Reverend David Miller officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Stewartsville Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 508.
