The Lady Spartan defense did a good job of keeping Lathrop’s senior Katie Cordray in check through the first half, but the 6-3 senior post found the range over the final two periods to lead Lathrop to a 49-38 win over visiting Richmond Thursday night.
Cordray scored 21 of her game-high 27 points over the final two periods to help push the Lady Mules to 8-1 while dropping the Lady Spartans to 8-4.
Richmond coach David Littrell was pleased with his team’s defensive effort against Cordray throughout the evening.
“Although we did a great job limiting her touches in the first half, we needed to carry that over into the second half to come out on top,” he said. “We only gave up one more total point in the second half than in the first, but we really fell out of what we wanted to accomplish on the defensive end in the latter part of the game.”
Richmond grabbed a quick 3-2 lead, but Lathrop answered with a 14-point run to take a 16-6 lead into the second quarter.
