The Orrick Bearcats will play for consolation Friday night at the Braymer Invitational. Orrick battled fourth-seeded Southwest in the opener Tuesday night before falling 55-44, but came back to roll past winless Breckenridge 75-38 Wednesday night to advance.
Mason Karnes scored 22 points – 16 of those in the first half to pace the Bearcats to their second win in 11 contests. Karnes’ scoring helped boost Orrick to an 18-13 lead after 8 minutes and 42-19 by halftime. Three other Bearcats reached double figures as Tanner Werle added 14 points, followed by John Moore with 12 and Tyler Crow with 10.
Orrick fell behind Southwest 18-7 in the opening round, but fought back to cut the halftime deficit to 31-16. Southwest scored 17 points in the third and added 17 more in the fourth to hold on for the win as Cole Upton scored a game-high 19 points for the Wildcats. Ethan Crowe hit for 10 points.
