When Henrietta voters go to the polls in April, they’ll likely see a ballot measure asking for the city collector’s job to become an appointed position. Currently, Henrietta City Clerk Marjorie Long serves as collector. Her term ends April 2015.
On Saturday, the town’s Board of Aldermen approved initial and second readings of Bill No. 309, Ordinance No. 14-354 to put a proposal on the April 8 ballot to make city collectors appointees. The two 4-0 approvals were among a handful of agenda items the board unanimously approved during its monthly meeting at Henrietta City Hall.
This isn’t the first time the proposal has been considered.
“We’ve had it on the ballot before and it’s failed,” Long said. “Can’t guarantee it’ll pass.”
