Reverend Billy G. Jennings, 81, entered into his heavenly home Nov. 29, 2013, surrounded by loved ones at Liberty Hospital.
He was born May 18, 1932, in Bennett Springs, Laclede County, one of four children of Freeman Levi and Ida Belle (Berry) Jennings. He grew up in Lebanon, where he graduated from high school. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1956. He was united in marriage to Roena Williams May 17, 1957, in Lebanon.
Rev. Jennings entered the ministry in the Pentecostal Church of God in 1962 and was ordained in 1973. During his ministry of more than 50 years, he pastored the Gospel Lighthouse PCG in Kansas City, Mo., from 1970 until 1990, served as Superintendent of the Central District PCG from 1990 until 2000, and pastored Messenger Chapel PCG in Richmond, from 2003 until 2009.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Roena, two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Jerry Harvey, Julia and Rev. Sam Rose; son, Philip Jennings; four grandchildren, Melissa, Samantha, Zachariah and Jeffrey; two great grandchildren, Zoe and Nolan; his mother, Ida Jennings, two sisters, Mary Parsons and Donita Reid.
Along with his father, Freeman L. Jennings, Rev. Jennings was preceded in death by a sister, Leota Napper.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Northland Abundant Life Worship Center, 7700 N. Church Road, Kansas City, Mo.. A funeral service celebrating Rev. Jennings’ life will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the church. Burial will follow in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
