A high tunnel workshop will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Dennis Crook Farm approximately 10 miles northeast of Richmond.
A high tunnel is a plastic covered metal frame used to extend the growing season for Missouri fruit and vegetables. The workshop will cover plant and variety selection, maintenance, information resources, and networking. Presentations will be made by Lincoln University Extension, the University of Missouri Extension, and United States Department of Agriculture.
The workshop should be of interest to those who already have a high tunnel or who are interested in getting one.
Thirteen Caldwell and Ray County growers have been awarded grants from the USDA, through the local Natural Resource Conservation Service Office for high tunnel construction since 2010. Future funding is yet to be determined.
