Roy R. Brown
Roy R. Brown, 76, of Richmond, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Roy was born June 26, 1937 in rural Bernie, the son of Ralph “Jack” and Augusta Lorean (Harrison) Brown. He married Evelyn Halterman of Hardin, in 1961; she preceded him in death in 2004. He later married Karen (Thompson) Chester of Richmond Sept. 29, 2006, she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two step-daughters, Amy Chester of Kansas City, Mo., and Sarah and Matt Hendrix of Excelsior Springs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Nellie Brown of Campbell, and Jerry and June Brown of Malden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roy was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from the Malden High School. Roy was retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad in June 1999, where he was employed in the Auditor of Revenue Accounting Department. Roy served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Turkey during most of his service. He lived most of his life in Kansas City, Mo. before moving to Richmond. Roy was a member of the Richmond American Legion Post #237 and Richmond VFW Post # 438; he served on the honor guard squad faithfully helping with funerals for veterans and other official acts. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hardin.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church in Hardin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the First Baptist Church in Hardin at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Hardin Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans. Thurman Funeral Home of Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
