Lonnie Dale Sutton, Sr., 63, of Richmond, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Lonnie was born March 6, 1950 in Bonne Terre, to Clinton and Edna (Dillard) Sutton. He married Dana Welker of Desloge, on March 27, 1971; she survives of the home.
Lonnie was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He later transferred his enlistment to the United States Air Force, and retired as SR. Master Sargent, after serving his country for 26 years. He was a deputy Commandant at Wentworth Military Academy for 20 years. Lonnie was currently working for Direct Transit in Richmond. He was a member of the Henrietta Baptist Church. He had lived in Desloge, before moving to Richmond in 1993.
Additional survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie Dale, Jr., and Rebecca Sutton of Platte City; one daughter, April Fescina and her fiancé, Phillip Schall, of Richmond; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger Sutton of Desloge, Don and Barb Sutton of Terre Dulac, Richard Sutton of Desloge, and Clinton “J.R.” and Nina Sutton of Bismark; one sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ralph Shelton of Iron Mountain; and nine grandchildren, Michael Fescina, Kennedy Sutton, Micah Sutton, Jasmine Sutton, Lonnie D. Sutton, III, Leila Sutton, Deisha Sutton, Scarlette Sutton and Moses Sutton also survive.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Jerry Sutton.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the Henrietta Baptist Church. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 10, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Wentworth Military Honor Guard.
