Jack Shockley, 73, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City.
Jack was born Sept. 26, 1940 in Maries County, to Henry and Mable (Jurgensmeyer) Shockley. He married Nancy L. Meeker of Jennings, Dec. 9, 1961; she survives of the home.
Jack was a 1957 graduate from St. James. He started his grocery career in 1957 with Kroger Foods in St. Louis, ending his career with Harold’s Supermarket in 2003. He was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church. Jack had lived in Jennings, and Excelsior Springs, before moving to Richmond in 1977.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond First Baptist Church.
Additional survivors include three sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Shockley of Excelsior Springs, Jeffrey and Shawna Shockley of Garland, Texas and Thomas Shockley of Branson; one brother and sister-in-law, LaVerne “Tom” and Joyce Shockley of O’Fallon; two sisters, Ruth Smith of Wapello, Iowa and Ruby Heichelbech of Frankfort, Ky.; two grandchildren, Valerie Shockley and Chloe Shockley; and one sister-in-law, Georgia Shockley of St. Peters.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Shockley; and one sister, MaryAnn Coburn.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
