The Richmond cross country team competed against some larger schools Saturday at the Kearney Invitational and, for the most part, held its own. The Spartans finished 12th in the 20-team field with 322 points, with Lawson edging Richmond by 10 points for 11th.
Liberty North slipped past Warrensburg for first place, 66-67, while the host Bulldogs finished third with 89 points, followed by Grain Valley, Smithville, Pembroke Hill and O’Hara.
Hardin-Central ended the day with 496 points to finish 19th – ahead of North Platte and St. Joseph Christian.
Matt Tweedie had the top Spartan finish for the meet with his time of 15 minutes, 50.29 seconds putting him in 12th. Riley Gorham had the best finish for Hardin-Central with his 23rd-place time of 18:00.54. The Spartans had three other runners finish in the top 100 with Wyatt Bulk crossing the line in 19:09.27 (75th), Kody Reed 19:11.2 (76th) and Roy Branson with 19:43.81 (95th).
