With all five golfers earning all-district honors, the Richmond Lady Spartans advanced to the Sectional Tournament that will be held Monday at Paradise Pointe in Smithville. Richmond finished as the runner-up with a 385 at Shirkey Golf Course, with Smithville shooting a 371 to win the team title.

Maysville was a distant third – 33 shots away from the final team qualifying spot. Excelsior Springs placed fourth with 450, followed by Lawson with 456, Plattsburg with 494, Gallatin with 508, South Harrison with 518 and Orrick with 545. Hamilton-Penny had just two golfers and did not field a full team.

Lady Spartan coach Murray Dennis said his team did a great job of battling all afternoon.

“They all shot in the 50s on their first nine holes and all improved on those scores their second nine, in fact four of them shot in the 40s,” he said. “We were very close to winning the district.”

Breann Mathis had the low Richmond round with her 92 (50-42) that put her in fourth spot, two shots ahead of teammate Becca Westbrook (44-50).

Lawson’s Madalynn Propst was the district champion with an 81 (43-38), while Taryn Mosby of Smithville earned runner-up honors 5 shots off the pace. Paige Imhoff, also of Smithville shot 90 (42-48) to finish third.
