The Richmond Lady Spartans pulled off a double during their visit to Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs Monday. In addition to winning the initial MRVC conference tournament, the Lady Spartans also captured top spot for the Odessa Tournament.
The Lady Spartans have now captured first place in their last three tournaments.
Richmond fired a 377, which was easily the low team round to win the conference tournament, while that score also stood up to take first place for the 10-team Odessa Tournament.
The Lady Spartans had all five golfers place in the top 10 in the league tournament to earn all-conference honors with Breann Mathis edging teammate Becca Westbrook for medalist honors. Mathis carded a 91 (45-46), which was one shot better than Wesbrook’s round (43-49).
Maddy Zeller was fourth with her 95 (46-49) – a shot behind Grain Valley’s Kaylee Hutchens. Makenzi Turley finished sixth with her round of 99 (50-49), while Lady Spartan teammate Brooke Ross was seventh with 102 (50-52).
“That was pretty awesome hearing the girls’ names called to receive their medals and to receive both tournaments championships,” Richmond coach Murray Dennis said. “I couldn’t be more happy for the girls right now and it’s great to see them putting good rounds together at this time of the season.”
