The Humane Society of Ray County has a selection of adoptable cats and dogs at its shelter. Adoption days are Saturdays and Sundays from 1-3 p.m. at 200 S. College St. (the old county jail). For info, call: 816-776-8576 or 816-456-4976.
Adoption fees are $110 for dogs or $80 for cats, which includes spay/neutering, shots, tests and registered microchipping for dogs.
Among the shelter’s new arrivals are Pookie and Bella.
Pookie is a 5-year-old male cat. He is orange in color and has long hair. He is a very big cat. He is also very friendly and loves attention, and looks like the kind of cat who would be comfortable in your home, or anywhere.
Bella is a pit bull terrier who weighs 37 pounds. She is a bit timid but friendly – not unusual for an animal still adjusting to being confined in new surroundings.
Bella knows the command sit and seems like a very sweet dog. Because she is a pit bull terrier, she can not be adopted by a person who lives in Richmond. She could be adopted by someone who lives in Ray County, outside the city limits.
The Humane Society advises potential adopters to check their city’s ordinance, since pit bull terriers may not be allowed.
Bella was scheduled to be spayed Oct. 7 and Pookie was to have had his shots early that week, too.
