After a disappointing season last year, the Richmond Lady Spartans bounced back this fall and earned a share of the MRVC East softball title with Higginsville. Richmond got the offense cranked up Tuesday as the Lady Spartans collected 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Knob Noster at Southview Park.

The two Richmond victories give the Lady Spartans a 7-3 record in the league and 10-11 overall.

Richmond completed the regular season with a 12-1 win over the Lady Panthers in the first game – a makeup from last week’s rainout at Knob Noster – and then completed the sweep with a 17-4 win in the second game.

Paige O’Doniel, Alexis Thaxton and Madison Cole paced the hitting parade with 2 each in the Lady Spartans’ 9-hit attack. O’Doniel and Thaxton also drove in 2 runs each. Thaxton slammed a home run in Richmond’s 3-run second inning, while O’Doniel’s triple highlighted a 5-run fourth inning.
